Fanlistings

In the words of the Fanlistings home:

"A fanlisting is a place for all fans of a particular show, movie, actor/actress, singer, etc. to come together and build the biggest listing of people from all around the world who are fans of that subject."

Sound simple enough? This fanlisting is a place for all fans of Quills to gather together. All you have to do to be a part of it is to read the rules then join - easy. And, don't fret if you don't have a website or online blog, you can still join. All you need to be elegible to join is a name, location, and a valid email address.

Quills

I bought Quills on DVD recently as I had been enthralled by Geoffrey Rush's presence and performance as Sir Francis Walsingham in the film Elizabeth, as well as liking his Barbossa in Pirates of the Caribbean, and so wanted to see more of him. Out of all his films available to me, Quills stood out from the rest - it sounded by far the most promising in terms of Geoffrey's performance, and also the most daring and intriguing in terms of its subject matter - and so I bought it, and have never been so impressed by a film! I was glued from start to finish, and found myself laughing and cringing in turn, my funny bone tickled by the crass but witty humour, and my stomach turned by the cruelty and violence. The characters were all well-acted by the superb cast line-up - including Kate Winslet, Joaquin Phoenix and Michael Caine alongside Rush - and the movie was most stylishly shot, with its atmosphere heightened even further by Stephen Warbeck's eerie, musical score.

Directed by Philip Kaufman and adapted for the screen by Doug Wright from his own stage play, Quills does not make for easy viewing, but poses some very powerful questions about human nature and the power of art, as well as looking at how the freedom of speech and expression can be repressed, but rarely exstinguished - indeed, only death was powerful enough to silence the Marquis! It's perhaps one of the darkest and most twisted films I've ever seen, but it is also one of the very best.

I never thought that I would find myself calling Quills a favourite film before I bought it, it starring Geoffrey Rush or no, but by the time the credits were rolling after my first viewing, I had been converted. It was such a good film, and so intelligent and moving, that I couldn't help but be a fan of it.

This Website

I was disappointed as I browsed through theFanlistings.org recently to find that, when I clicked on the link to the Quills fanlisting, there was nothing but Microsoft's 404 page on the other end. I thus reported the dead link and then sulked. I soon realised that I couldn't just sit back and do nothing, though, and found myself wanting to fill this Quills-fanlisting-shaped void on the web, and so I decided to give it a shot myself. There have already been at least two previous Quills fanlistings, but one has disappeared from the face of the 'Net, whilst the other still exists, but was abandoned some time during 2002 - so let's hope that it's third time lucky and this one endures! :)

This site was made with Dreamweaver MX and Adobe Photoshop CS2 software, Notepad and is hosted by Streamlinenet at my own expense. All images are captured by myself from the Quills DVD (with PowerDVD 5).

About Me

I'm 23 years old, live in Lincoln in the UK, and am a huge Geoffrey Rush fan. Infact, I've fallen in love with him so much that I've had to "marry" him. (Never mind XXXX - he's the best Australian export around! ^_~)

But fangirl silliness aside... it was his part in the film Elizabeth, where he played Sir Francis Walsingham, that first caught my attention - there was just something about him that made me want to see more. So I went off on a Rush-hunt and the next film that intrigued me was that of Quills. From what I read about it, the film sounded promising in itself, and Geoffrey's part in it even more so, so I bought it and watched it and have never looked back. The film had me glued from start to finish, and Geoffrey's performance astounded me - he was astonishing, and had completely reinvented himself for the role, something he's very capable of, whilst other actors seem unable to break free from their own characterisitc moulds. He was the Marquis de Sade, just as he was Francis Walsingham in Elizabeth, Barbossa in Pirates of the Caribbean, Javert in Les Misérables, and so on and so forth. And so, as explained above, I took it upon myself to make a fanlisting for Quills, because such materpieces demand their own fanlists.
